My Condolence to Boston Marathon Explosion Victims

I would like to take a moment to express my deepest and heartiest condolence to the victims and their families in the recent bombing attack at the finishing line of Boston Marathon on 15 April 2013, which coincides with the US Patriot Day.

Boston Marathon, the world oldest marathon dating back to 1897 and drawing more than 20,000 runners each year, was hit by what was described as the worst bomb explosion after the 11 September 2001 attack. 3 were dead and more than 100 were injured...

If you haven't know about this incident, you may read at the CNN, BBC or abc news webpage. Even if you search "Boston Marathon" I'm sure the search engine would return thousands of results....

Brooks Half Marathon - my First Run in 2013

Ok...I know it's kinda late to post this now...but I wanted to wait for the result first...well, the official result has been revealed yesterday so now I'm sharing my insight on this marathon now ^^

I have always like to run at Bukit Jalil...Passing across the nice houses and wide road, running at Bukit Jalil is not something new to me...The first time was Larian Amal Seri Sinar in 2009 and the second was Bareno Run in 2011..So this should be the third time I run at Bukit Jalil...

Although the run is called "Half Marathon", various other categories also available, and as usual, my pick was 10km, hehe ^^

And after months of retiring from marathon, I'm glad that I was able to finish the 10km course at just under 1.5hours!! Happy MooN ^^

Shape Night Run Roar...!!!

Compared to my last previous run, I manage to improve my timing for run this year...I finished 11.8km at about 1hour 45minutes...not bad huh? ^^

But the route for this run was definitely more difficult compared to the StandChart 2012, what more it was a night run (plants respire at night, I have to fight for oxygen =.=") It was up and down the road, cross bridges, circle the lake...I think I have ran really hard to the finishing line lol...

And oh... Men's Health and Shape Night Run is well-known to be giving a lot goodies and sponsored merchandise to the participants...Here's what I got:

Race Kit
Skechers Running Tee
Running Bib Number
Timing Chip

Pardon me for the not-so-nice picture...nicer picture at Shape webpage

A Tragic Incident at Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010

A note, written by Mr Toh Yit Ming from facebook, shared by my friend G.Ni via facebook also…
I would like to share a tragic incident that happened at Standard Chartered KL Marathon today…

When i was running my final 2 km on the 10km… as i was running along the road in front of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, i saw a guy was sitting on the road side then soon enough he collapsed…

this incident attracted my attention as a guy(a training doctor, named Irkhan) that was trying to help him was shouting for medic..

as i was a trained EFR, i ran over to see what is happening.. (it was around 1 hour into the race for 10km runners)

i got to know that the guy (named Lim) has collapsed and was having seizure.. we tried to place him in recovery position… he was breathing very heavily and shortly and he was also biting his teeth very very hard… i was afraid that he will hurt himself (with either biting his own tongue or he closed up his airway).. so i tried to open up his jaw and tried to communicate wif him to have him relax and breath easily.. he then slowed down his breathing and taking deeper breath…

another lady (lady A) came to help and constantly monitor on his pulse… and Dr. Visva (was another participant in the run) came over to help…

Then suddenly, his pulse was gone… then we lied him flat and started on CPR procedures… we constantly check on his pulse to check whether his pulse has come back.. we did chest compression and also mouth-to-mouth breathing to Lim…

as we were doing the CPR procedures, we did not sight medic anywhere.. and we tried to shout as loud as possible for medic…

After awhile into the CPR procedures, “lady A” said that she could feel his pulse but was very weak.. then we stopped the CPR procedures to see whether he regain consciousness or not…

After i stopped the chest compression on Lim, i started shouting for medic services again with the hope that a medic services is nearby and heard us.. but unfortunately not… we only sighted 3 DBKL Officers(with big motorcycles) just stood by the road side and just stare… the did not come over to help or to check out what happened… (it was around 10 minutes that Lim collapse and had seizure)…

after a moment, Lim loose his pulse again.. we started CPR procedures again.. we still did not sight an ambulance or any EMS(Emergency Medical Services) around… after approximately 30 compression, Lim regained his pulse but was very very weak.. and yet.. there was still no ambulance or EMS sighted… and DBKL officers still stood there and did not came over to help… so I informed a passer by to run to the officers to tell them to call for an EMS soonest possible…

after we performed CPR procedures on Lim for the the third time, finally a St. John ambulance came after around 15 - 20 minutes after Lim collapsed…

we let the EMS officers to take over the CPR and First Aid… Dr. Visva asked whether do they have the AED(Automated External Defibrillator)… one of the person from the EMS said that they do not have it.. then I asked whether do they have a face mask with pump.. they also did not have it there… THEY PRACTICALLY HAVE NOTHING IN THE AMBULANCE!!!!!!!! -.-”

EMS took him and speed their way to HKL…

we were later informed that the Response time for EMS is 3 minutes but it took them almost 20 minutes to arrive… and later.. as I was reading through the Runners Guide that was provided in our running kit…

There is a statement (at page 15) that states that “Medical Assistance - Medical Aid is available every 4km and at the Finish Area. Due to runner’s physical condition, Medical Officials are authorized to stop runners and remove their timing chip”…

every 4KM MY ROYAL ASS.. I did not see any first aider, ambulance or any sort of medical officials along my 10km route… and if 4km was true.. it definitely will not take them SO LONG to arrive…

———————————————————————–

I got a call from Dr. Visva a moment ago.. he went to HKL to check out the condition of Lim and he informed me that Lim have passed away on his arrival to the hospital… T__T

Lim is only into his 20’s and was running the 10KM distance…

P/s: please share this note to as many people as possible.. we will hope to create awareness on the inefficiency of EMS, DBKL officers and organiser of standard chartered KL Marathon 2010…

we also want to create an awareness that this kind of inefficiency have caused a life of a young man…

we will hope that the marathon organisers will take responsibility and make EMS a top priority in their planning

The KL Marathon has failed again, with even heavier issue this time...I wonder whether Standard Chartered will be the title sponsor again next year...

Hope the organizers of marathon take this issue seriously. Life’s at stake. Nobody want any of his/her friend or family member collapse at roadside, unattended, and passed away quietly…this unfortunate event could have been avoided in the first place...

my advice to runners, carry your handphone along when running, and make sure the handphone is not running out of battery...

Prostate Cancer Awareness Run

The run this morning was organized in conjuntion of the Prostate Awareness Campaign (18 to 20 June) organized by Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangasaan Malaysa (PPUKM). Nonetheless, not many people participating (I think there were around 700 runners only for 8 categories available)...perhaps most of the others rather 'save' their energy and stamina for next week's Standard Chartered Marathon...

Before the run, we had some aerobic which was quite fun...the flag off was at 7.45am...My record: about 55 minutes for a distance of 7km...haha, not a good record though, but I was within top 30 so I got a medal ^^

2 Lessons in one weekend...

Marathon

I just had my first 2010 marathon last Saturday night....it was held at Putrajaya and there were a lot participants joining the marathon...which translated to the big battle for oxygen....

Darn, how could I forget that the trees and plant don't produce oxygen at night? Marathon in the morning is much more refreshing!!

I swear that was the first, and last night marathon for me...ops...last night marathon if there is nothing special about the run (because in some race they offer a lot goodies which are very hard to resist ^^)

Lesson No 1: Never deny the rights of plants to inhale oxygen

Online Shopping

Just yesterday night, I got my clothes that I ordered online...well, not exactly online, because the business owner is my sister's friend...and oh my...got really disappointed ==

  • White blouse with black jacket - too big for me, straight, boring cutting

  • Mini checked red skirt with a black ribbon - too small that it highlights the shape of my butt

  • Black dress top with rectagular-shaped spangles on the waist line - I thought it was a dress, but it is a top, cause the skirt is too short, and it's very, very tight...make me look too sexy on it

  • Dress with a ribbon on the bust, top grey, bottom black & white motif - the bust hole is too big (I don't have big breasts) and the back side is weird
Served me right, I should have known this would happen before I placed my order == argh!! Give me back my money!!!

Lesson No 2: Never buy vague stuff online

p/s: I would post my marathon pictures soon

I shaked hand with Julian Wynter, the CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia...

Today is the 7th (or 6th?) installment of the prominent leader talk....fstep has invited Mr Julian Wynter, the then Managing Director and CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia...

During the Q&A session, i posed a question to him asking his comment on the glitch of the standard chartered KL Marathon run and how it affected StanChart since it was the title sponsor for the run...

He said Standard Chartered was just a title sponsor and not the real culprit behind (of which i acknowledged...) He also said that Octagon, the organiser, has sent them explanation and apology letter...

When i was just about to go for break, i saw him again at the lobby of Darul Takaful... i shaked hand with him and thanked him for the talk earlier...

And guess what... he said sorry to me for the unpleasant experience that i had during the marathon and pat my shoulder at the same time... what a very gentle and down-to-earth man!!!

He also personally assured me, that the marathon next year will be fine and that StanChart will ensure that the organiser will not repeat the same mistake...he hope i will participate in the marathon in 2010...of which i think i will... :)

Update @ 23 November 2012: Sorry, the past tense for 'shake' is 'shook', not 'shaked'...and I didn't participate the StandChart marathon 2010 due to personal matter....

octagon apologised for the KL marathon shortcomings...

they admits to the shortcomings...it's in the nst two days ago (report) and also on the official website...

am just wondering how many frustrated runners would forgive and forget and give one more chance?

me, for one, will forgive and forget, but giving chance? hmm....i will always check who the organise is before participating in any marathon in the future....
